Agatha Anggira Paramita Putri Sanjaya, widely known as Gie Sanjaya, is the Founder of Kids Biennale Indonesia and Creative Indonesia, an independent curator, fashion designer, and cultural practitioner based in Indonesia. She holds a Master of Arts degree with specializations in Curatorial and Art Management. Her interdisciplinary background informs a practice that bridges contemporary art, education, design, and community engagement, with a strong focus on addressing current social and cultural issues through collaborative and experimental approaches.
Gie’s curatorial practice emphasizes research-based methodologies, extensive dialogue and interviews with artists, and cross-disciplinary experimentation. She is particularly interested in how art can function as an educational tool and a catalyst for public discourse. Through her work, she actively contributes to the development of contemporary art ecosystems by building sustainable artistic infrastructure and fostering inclusive platforms that connect artists, audiences, institutions, and communities. Her curatorial projects often explore intersections between fine art, visual art, design, craft, education, new media art and social practice, encouraging new ways of seeing and understanding complex realities.
She is the founder of Creative Indonesia, an art and education space dedicated to interdisciplinary learning and creative exchange. Creative Indonesia operates as both an exhibition venue and a learning environment where people can study art, design, photography, and other cross-disciplinary practices. The space supports emerging and mid-career artists, designers, photographers, artisans, and multidisciplinary practitioners through exhibitions, workshops, talks, and educational programs. By creating an accessible and experimental environment, Creative Indonesia plays a significant role in nurturing artistic growth and expanding public engagement with contemporary creative practices.
In parallel with her curatorial work, Gie is also the founder of Wang Sinawang, a handmade accessory brand that highlights craftsmanship, material exploration, and the value of slow production. The brand reflects her interest in the relationship between contemporary design and traditional making processes, positioning craft as an important cultural and artistic practice rather than a purely commercial product.
In 2024, Gie established Kids Biennale Indonesia Foundation, an innovative, non-profit platform dedicated to children and teenagers. Kids Biennale Indonesia addresses current social, cultural, and environmental issues through art and culture, using exhibitions and educational programs as tools for critical thinking and creative expression. Held every two years, the biennale presents both small- and large-scale exhibitions at local and international levels, and is designed as a public-oriented initiative that encourages early engagement with contemporary art. Kids Biennale Indonesia aims to cultivate future generations of creative thinkers while strengthening Indonesia’s presence within regional and global contemporary art networks.
